Portfolio
A portfolio is the record of what you actually own: each holding, what it cost, what it is worth at today's prices, the cash in the account, and the profit or loss on every position.
Your broker's website shows you the current value of an account, but on its own terms: one account at a time, in its own layout, with limited history and no way to see holdings at several brokers together. A portfolio on aNewFN is a portfolio tracker that is your own independent record. You enter or import each buy, sell, dividend, and cash movement, and from those entries the site calculates what you hold, what it is worth using live market prices, how much cash is in the account, and how much each position has made or lost. Because the record is yours, it can hold accounts at different brokers, in different currencies, and you can check it against each broker's statement.
You can keep several accounts, each in its own currency, and share an account read-only with another member, who can look but not change anything. Listed shares are valued from the live feed; a holding the feed does not cover, such as an unlisted investment, can be given a price by hand. The pages under a portfolio each answer one question: what is it worth today, how has it done over the year, what does it hold, what has each position made, what was bought and sold, where did the cash go, and does it still agree with the broker.
aNewFN does not hold your shares or your money. The portfolio is a record and a calculation, not a brokerage account, and it does not place trades. A watchlist that only follows prices, with no quantities, is a monitor.
Questions
Does aNewFN connect to my broker?
No. You enter transactions yourself or import a file you exported from your broker, and you reconcile the result against the broker's statement.
Can I keep more than one account?
Yes. Each account has its own currency, and accounts at different brokers can sit side by side.
Can I track an ISA or a SIPP?
Yes, as its own portfolio. The site records and values the holdings; it does not calculate tax.
Can other people see my portfolio?
Only if you share it, and then read-only. Nobody else can add or change anything in it.
