Portfolio summary
The portfolio summary is what an account is worth right now, how much that has changed today, and how its value and return have developed over time.
The first question about any account is what it is worth and whether today has been good or bad. The summary answers that in the account's own currency: total value at current market prices, the day's change in money and percent, and two charts, one of the account's value over time and one of its return. The return chart matters because value alone misleads you: an account that grew because you paid cash in has not performed, and one that shrank because you withdrew cash has not lost. Return strips the cash movements out.
A shared account shows the same summary read-only. The total is made up of the individual holdings, which are on the holdings page; the value at the end of each month or over a tax year is the report.
