Portfolio report
The portfolio report is the account's value and return over a period or tax year you choose, which is the figure that tells you whether your investing is actually working.
Day-to-day movements say little about whether your approach is succeeding. The report steps back: it marks the account to market at regular points across a period, typically a tax year, and shows how value and return developed month by month. That is the figure to set against an index, a savings rate, or last year. You can change the period and the month the year starts in, so an account can be reported on the UK tax year starting in April, a calendar year, or any other span.
The report values holdings at the prices of the time, not at the live tick, so it is a historical account rather than a live one. It is built from the transactions you entered, and it is only as accurate as they are. It is not a tax return or a broker's official statement, though it is a useful check against both.
