Toplists
Toplists rank every share on a market by today's movement, so you can find the biggest risers, fallers, and busiest names without knowing in advance which shares to look at.
Something is always moving in a market, and most of the time it is a share that was not on your watchlist. Toplists are how you find it. Each list ranks all the shares on a market by one measure: biggest percentage rise or fall since the previous close, the top gainers and losers, highest volume of shares traded, most individual trades, or widest spread between bid and offer. The percentage measure puts a small share and a large one on equal terms, so a penny stock up thirty percent ranks above a blue chip up two.
Each measure answers a different question. Percentage change finds the day's stories. Volume and trade count find where the activity is, which sometimes precedes a move. Spread finds shares that are expensive to deal in, where the gap between buying and selling price is wide. The rankings update live. A name that ranks takes you to its quote and chart; nothing on a toplist is saved, so a share you want to keep goes on a monitor.
