Market Data API

The Market Data API lets your own program, spreadsheet, or script read the same prices, bars, news, and rankings the website shows, for when you want to build your own tools on the data.

Sometimes you want the data rather than the screens: a spreadsheet that revalues your portfolio, a script that alerts you to a price, a model that tests a strategy on historical bars. The Market Data API serves that. It is a set of HTTP endpoints that return sessions, symbols, live quotes, price bars, news, and toplists as data, with the market given as L for London, BATS for US shares, or FX for currencies, metals, and bitcoin. The documentation at /api/docs is public and gives you each call, its parameters, and an example response.

Calls that need an account send a bearer token, which you create on API keys, and each token has a rate limit. The API reads data only: it does not place orders and it is not the private interface the website itself uses. The address /api redirects to the documentation.

Questions

Can I place trades through the API?

For calls that need an account, yes: a bearer token you create on API keys. The documentation itself is public.
